Owen Cutajar on how Code Club actually got built, Tues 6 Oct
Right, this one I have been trying to make happen for a while. Owen Cutajar started the Isle of Man Code Club and still chairs it. It runs every Saturday afternoon, four until six, free to walk into, and it has been going long enough to have sent 39 Manx students into the CyberCenturion cyber security competition.
The bit that made me want to sit him down: in 2022 two of his teams went to London, competed against something like 400 teams from across the British Isles, and came back second. A later team went and won it outright.
No payroll. No office. Fifteen quid a year in membership.
So on Tuesday 6 October, half five to half six, we are doing a fireside chat. It is called "More Than Code" because it is not really about coding. It is about taking something you personally care about and turning it into something that lasts. Getting people behind an idea, building momentum with almost nothing, and using the fact that this island is small rather than complaining about it.
